WORK SAFE B.C CUT ME OFF!

April 12, 2007

JANUARY 7th 2007 WORK SAFE B.C CUT ME OFF!

My name is John H Berfelo. I have till April 26th before they make a decision on my life!

June 23rd 2005 at 630am I fell 28 feet on to concrete. I hit my head on the second floor I think.  I broke my neck (c 6 burst fracture) broke my teeth, fracture my skull.

I fell an additional 20 feet and when I hit the floor I shattered my left elbow ,broke my hip, tore ligaments in my foot and cartilage in my knee. My C4-C5 is also compressed. Anterior wedging between T12-L1, my L3-L4 disc space has been slightly narrowed with early lipping. Last of the back is a L5-S1 disc herniation with right S1 nerve impingement. Lots and Lots of PAIN!  I also believe I have suffered some head injury. I have a great deal of trouble thinking, concentrating on one thing, my mind wonders, remembering the day before or even the morning. I have headaches so bad it hurts to touch my hair they never go away.

I now have some major nerve damage in my lower back and neck. Because of the c-6 burst fracture, I have a Synthes anterior cervical plate with four self-drilling, self-tapping screws between my C5-C7 vertebrae.  I now live in chronic pain. I have been taking heavy prescription drugs, narcotics for pain, sleeping pills, muscle relaxer’s, anti-depressants and heart pills. At one point of my recovery, I was taking 32 pills a day to deal with all my issues.

On December 3rd 2006 I was no longer entitled to receive wage loss benefits .

The Work Safe B.C medical advisor (I have never seen a W.C.B doctor) has indicated that I have achieved a level of maximal medical recovery from my injuries.

I received a letter December 11th 2006 this letter stated  ( Your claim is accepted for a C6 burst fracture, compound comminuted fracture of the left olecranon  (shattered elbow) skull fracture and left hip fracture. There is no mention of the lower spinal damage, nothing about the thoracic spine, my left ankle, broken teeth ( three root canals ), my left hand is hyper sensitive (wind hurts) and my head injury that I have been complaining about since day one.

I can go on but my neck hurts and my head is pounding. I cannot work because I cannot sit or stand for any real length of time 5-10min tops. My neck is so bad it hurts to hold my head up. I get sharp stabbing pains in my neck all day 30-50 times. The pain in my hand never goes away. My back cripples me to a point I cannot walk. The spasms in my back are sharp and extremely painful I need to lye down all the time.

The people involved in helping me (WCB, my own Doctor) have completely left me “high and dry”. I am in desperate need of help since I’m still not receiving any income whatsoever and I honestly do not know what to do.

John Berfelo
